Melt-blowing provides bi- or multi-component fibers less than 10 microns in diameter, useful for filters, moisture barriers, insulation, and sorbents. Webs from these fibers show excellent retention of electrical charge, for improved filtration. Splitting makes even smaller fibers with enhanced filtration or dirt pickup propeerties. Webs from the fibers can take advantage of both components.
